The second factor is the loss of focus of the set preferences dialog box as noted in previous posts. I do not recall changing it in another program. The first was that Lyx accepted the default background color specified by the operating system, which is my case was a dark gray.
So, my problem was a combination of two factors. I did look for the background color in the Lyx preferences and the default color was the usual cream color not the dark gray as it was in my user account. Apparently, Lyx only saves a file if the user changes any settings. I logged in as administrator and searched for the preferences file in the Lyx directories but did not find it. # modifications you should do them from inside LyX and save. I will login as the administrator later and try to find the preferences file and post here. This was after I changed the background color so the new color seems to appear below. User directory: ~/Library/Application Support/LyX-2.2/ Searching along the 'User directory' path with terminal: Perhaps links or instructions on how to post a 'trac ticket' and where to find the preferences file. OK but I have not done either of those so could use help. Most LyX developers use Linux, so unfortunately it's hard for us to make progress on Mac-specific issues.
